Tucson's Military History

Did you know that during World War II, more than 11,000 men trained at the U of A for services on land, at sea and in the air? Most were in naval training. The basketball court was converted into barracks. The hardwood floor was covered with masonite to accommodate 500 cots. Navy flags hung from the rafters and the men's luggage was stored on the balcony seats. Source www.arizona.edu.
